Hwaseong Fortress
Suwon Hwaseong Fortress is a fortress made of piled stone and brick. It was constructed by King Jeongjo in the 18th century. There are 4 gates at the cardinal points: Changnyongmun (east), Hwaseomun (west), Paldalmun (south), Janganmun (north). In these Four gates, paldalmun and Hwaseomun are designated as treasure. Paldalmun is treasure 402 and Hwaseomun is treasure 403. And Suwon Hwaseong Fortress designated as UNESCO World Heritage, Historic site 3. Tourists will walk between Janganmun and Hwahongmun.

Suwon Nammun Market is a traditional market established 220 years ago by calling for merchants at the king’s command. Suwon Nammun Market is the only market in Korean History to have been created by a royal. Currently, Nammun Market is the largest market in Korea. This market consists of 9 sections.

Here, tourists will learn how to make kimchi and experience kimchi-making. Kimchi is a Korean traditional dish that originated during the Three Kingdoms period. In the past, Kimchi used to be made before the winter started. And people calling this kimchi-making season, kimjang. It made by fermanted vegetables and burying into the ground in Korean traditional ceramic pot, called onggi. Kimchi tastes sour, spicy, pungent. It’s similar to sauerkraut in that it is fermented cabbage but kimchi is spicier than sauerkraut.
